Creating Your Wedding Photo Album

Wedding photo albums are extremely personal and should be unique to reflect your preferences and personality. For assistance in wedding album design/creation, follow the four easy steps below--you will be able to create a unique magazine style wedding album without the added cost. We have the selection and versatility many seek when they look to buy wedding photo albums.

Creating A Wedding Photo Album in Four Easy Steps

Step 1: Edit and Group

Edit and sort your favorite images into the groups you choose to use in telling your story. If you are telling your wedding story in chronological order the following groups will work. If you want to create your own timeline of events or groupings, that is fine too. This is your wedding album. Most albums contain approximately 50 to 120 images.

Start by creating folders with the following titles or come up with your own.

  • Getting Ready
  • Bride
  • Groom
  • Bride & Groom
  • Bride's Family
  • Groom's Family
  • Wedding Party
  • Ceremony
  • First Dance
  • Cake Cutting
  • Bouquet / Garter Toss
  • Reception

Sort and copy your images into these folders you've created.

Step 2: Choose your Book Size

The maximum number of pages in the 12x12 or 8x8 albums is 40 pages. The maximum for the 10x10 album is 50 pages. The number of pages will be determined by how many images you use per page. We recommend using the 12x12 album due to the images appearing about 50% larger than they do in the 10x10 album. The 8x8 album makes a wonderful Parents Albums.

Once you know the number of pages you can afford, you'll need to balance that with the number of images that you want to fit into those pages. If you have selected lots of images to be in your wedding photograph album, you will likely have to select page layouts that have many openings.

Often wedding couples use layouts with 1-3 openings to show off more important images and then use layouts with more openings to fill-in with other remaining images. For example, Bride, Groom and Ceremony images are often used in page layouts with one or a few openings, where as the reception images are used in page layouts with more openings.

Step 3: Design your Wedding Album Pages

Now you need to choose a page layout that has the look and correct number of openings you want to use. Review the page layouts here to find the one you'd like to use. Assign the images you plan to use to the page layout selected and also to the specific opening number within the layout. To make this easier we have created a worksheet for you to draft your design. Click here to download the worksheet.

Anytime you feel you need some inspiration, we invite you to click on the Sample Albums page to see some albums designed by other couples, as well as professional studios.

Now that you have your worksheet you'll want to start with the first page which will be a single 8x8, 10x10 or 12x12 page on the right side. Your last page will also be a single page but on the left. There are page layouts with text nodes in which you may make titles. After the first page each page will open to a double page spread. You may use any of our double page spread layouts or any two single page layouts to complete your design.

When looking through the sample layouts keep in mind that you can change the background color and the border color to customize the wedding album design to your style or theme.

Write down the page layout number on your worksheet for your page one. From your images choose the image or images for this page. Some brides choose an engagement image or a bride and groom wedding day image. Write the images numbers on the worksheet next to page one and the page layout number.

Now proceed, deciding to use either two single-page layouts or one double-page layout for each page or two pages. The double page layouts will be cut in half when placed in the album with a very narrow seam. Try to avoid placing an image that might cause a head to get cut by the center seam.

For your convenience we have allowed you to type in the number of images you'd like to place on a page here and this will call up the selection of page layouts with that number of openings.

Don't worry if you are not sure if something will work, as you drop the images into the page layouts you can always make changes if something does not look right or fit.

Step 4: Order the Wedding Photo Album

The fourth step is to open the Album Building Software program. Referring to your worksheets, select the first page layout number and open your images that go into the page layout. Drag and drop the first image into the opening in the layout where you want it. Rotate, crop and enlarge the image as you choose. Select color borders and/or color backgrounds. De-saturate background images to black & white if you choose.

Select the wedding photo album size you would like. Choose the color of your cover. Enter the information for the cover embossing. If you are using a cover with a cameo image, choose the image for the cameo.
